Collection: Karl Haala

Karl was born in Darwin and grew up surrounded by art and culture. He is the son of renowned Kakadu artist Jacqueline Cahill, who is celebrated for her unique technique of painting with strands of her own hair.

Karl learned to paint under his mother’s guidance, absorbing not just technique, but the deep cultural significance behind each brushstroke. His favourite subject to paint is the Barramundi, a fish rich in meaning and connection to Country.

When he's not painting, Karl enjoys relaxing at home, often with family by his side, creating art together. For Karl, painting is more than a pastime – it’s a way to stay grounded in his culture and carry forward the traditions of his ancestors.
