Local Aboriginal artist, Gwenyth Manakgu has designed and created this unique Woven Necklace that can also be displayed as Wall Décor.  It showcases the artists intricate workmanship and demonstrates Gwenyth's ability to work with natural material gathered in Kakadu National Park.

Apart from its aesthetic allure, Gwenyth Manakgu’s creation celebrates heritage and women's empowerment. ‘Women’s Business’ is not just a craft, it is the story of strength, tradition, and continuity of the fabric art of weaving and material gathering.

Features:

  • Indigenous Roots: The items are proudly produced from the Kakadu/ West Arnhem region and have close ties to the cultural practices and customs of the people therein.
  • Sustainable Harvesting: The competent weavers use an ancient method and pick only recently grown kunngobarn (pandanus) using a manmarli stick for minimal damage to nature.
  • Natural Adornments: The pandanus is carefully harvested, air-dried for several months, and finally dyed with natural dyes and colors that reflect the vibrancy of the Kakadu region.
  • Cultural Significance: Each item is both an ornament and a signifier of the land, its people, and its enduring traditions of the Kakadu/West Arnhem region.
