Narmurdur Grim Reaper by John Rocky Cahill
Narmurdur Grim Reaper by John Rocky Cahill
Narmurdur Grim Reaper, original canvas painting by local Bininj artist John Rocky Cahill.
Dimensions: 29.5cm x 41.5cm
Narmurdur is told to bring death with the whip he carries with him. He still to this day brings fear in many local Bininj in Kakadu and west Arnhem region. The locals say, if you hear the sound of a whipping late at night, you should run in from outside, it is not safe anymore. It is possible that the name Narmurdur is related to the word “namurnungu”, which means “The one who did it”, eg. the murderer, the right one, person responsible (male).
