Namarnkol (barramundi), is one of the main food sources for the locals all year around. It is also one of the totem animals for many indigenous, as well as Dreaming in many sites. Namarnkol is even told in stories to be kept as pets of the Yawk Yawk spirits. Traditionally, Bininj used to spear them at billabongs, rivers and floodwaters. Today the locals go fishing with lines and modern nets, yet sometimes with spears, and they know the best fishing spots all around Kakadu. Barramundi is for many the best tucker around, mah!
