Hosting Kakadu NAIDOC Week 2025

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme — “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy” — was proudly brought to life here in Kakadu National Park, where communities gathered to honour culture, share stories, and celebrate the future of Australia’s First Nations people.

Across the week, Warradjan Cultural Centre and our wider Kakadu community hosted a series of vibrant events that brought people together through art, food, music, and family fun.

Sip & Paint on the Yellow Water

The week began with something truly special — a Sip & Paint Yellow Water Cruise, where guests floated across the billabong as local artists guided a painting session inspired by the wetlands’ ever-changing beauty. Surrounded by bird calls, water lilies, and the setting sun, participants created their own pieces while learning about the cultural stories of this Country.

Big Eat Bush Tucker Meal & Shellie Morris Live

The weekend highlight was the Big Eat Bush Tucker Meal, a feast celebrating native flavours and community spirit. Guests enjoyed dishes featuring Kakadu’s local ingredients, from wild herbs to freshly caught fish, followed by an unforgettable live performance by the incredible Shellie Morris. Her music filled the night with heart and harmony — a perfect tribute to this year’s NAIDOC theme.

Cultural Activities at Warradjan

Throughout the week, Warradjan Cultural Centre hosted weaving demonstrations, art displays, and a traditional ground oven cook-up. Visitors were invited to sit with local weavers, watch as artworks took shape, and share stories around the fire. These hands-on experiences offered a beautiful reminder that culture is alive, growing, and passed proudly from one generation to the next.

Fun for the Kids

NAIDOC Week in Kakadu is always a family celebration. This year, kids had a blast with a bouncy castle, waterslide, and games, followed by a pancake breakfast to wrap up the week. Laughter, colour, and connection filled the park — a joyful reflection of community spirit.
