Enjoy the beauty of sustainability with a Woven Bangle by Kakadu Aboriginal Artist Louisa Bayne. An example of sustainable fashion that has been alive for thousands of year and remains part of the Aboriginal way of life in Kakadu today.

The practice of weaving and collecting materials has for a long time been perceived as “Women’s business” in the Kakadu National Park. It requires harvesting the Pandanus leaves, stripping them into long sections then placing then outside for drying, before dying and weaving the bangle.

Features:

  • Artisanal Craftsmanship: The artistry of the bracelet is based on thousands of years of tradition, with the local Bininj people using the manmarli hooked sticks to gather fresh kunngobarn (pandanus).
  • Vibrant Natural Dyes:  Earthy and colourful vegetal dyes extracted from Kakadu plants give the bangle seasonal colours linking it to nature’s cycles.
  • Sustainable Craftsmanship: Using foraged elements from native county celebrates environmental responsibility and ethics.
